Are all Plastic Surgeons the same?
No…That is the short answer. It is probably too short though, and deserves some explanation. Within the highly specialised field of Plastic Surgery, our training covers all forms of Reconstructive & Aesthetic Surgery. Throughout our training we perform: skin cancer reconstruction breast cancer reconstruction head and neck cancer reconstruction hand surgery craniomaxillofacial surgery congenital and paediatric surgery aesthetic/cosmetic surgery aesthetic non-surgical procedures including the use of lasers and injectable agents such as botox and fillers What is important to understand is that within each of these areas, there are further subcategories of specialist practice that some Plastic Surgeons devote themselves (and, in fact their entire careers) to. Put simply, most Plastic Surgeons will choose to sub-specialise to some degree or another. This decision will be based on the particular interests and skills each surgeon demonstrates. And this decision is good for patients. The key to this discussion is the old adage “jack of all trades, master of none”.
